Honey should be stored in a dark, dry, and odor-free place. Since honey attracts water and odors, storage containers must be tightly sealed and made of food-safe material.

The storage temperature also has a significant impact on honey. A temperature of 15°C is ideal, but honey also survives well at room temperatures around 20°C, as does storage in the freezer.

Carefully stored honey can be kept for many years, even decades. The "Best before end..." label usually indicates a use-by date of two to three years. This information is required by food law; however, the actual shelf life of quality honey is significantly longer.
