Nosemosis , a disease caused by fungal spores, is a diarrheal disease that affects adult bees and can quickly spread to the entire colony. Like nosematosis, this disease renders the affected bees unable to fly and ultimately leads to starvation. The disease can be treated with medication.

Chronic paralysis is a viral disease that also causes diarrhea and is primarily transmitted to adult bees and brood by the Varroa mite. Affected bees usually die within eight days. However, strong colonies can heal themselves.
